The reason is not only that the author has a good pen and is well-informed but also because of the focus he has chosen. This is a remarkable achievement for a subject that easily gets bogged down in Islamic legal terminology and esoteric arguments which even most Jihadis do not understand. It is clear, well-structured and highly readable and therefore accessible to the general public without content being simplified.
Shiraz Maher has written an excellent book on Jihadi-Salafism.
